in Meridian and died 5 Aug 1969 in Walnut Creek, California.
In 1928 Robert enlisted in the Navy
only to be discharged 6 weeks later due to an undisclosed
disability. In 1930 he was listed in the census as a mechanic
living with his parents in Meridian. In 1933 he was married to
Geneva Raulerson and living in Mobile, Alabama, still employed
as a mechanic. This marriage ended in divorce. By 1937 he was
shipping out on the steamer Bald Hill initially as third
assistant. By 1945 he had become the chief engineer. In 1940 Bob
and Elsie Thrash were married in Hattiesburg, Mississippi by the
Reverend Blanding Vaughan. They immediately relocated to
Martinez, California where their two children were born and
raised. Robert quit going to sea in 1945 and became employed by
the Shell Oil Refinery in Martinez and eventually retired from
that company. He lived in Pleasant Hill, California until his
death in 1969.
