Frederick Scarborough

Frederick Scarborough was born in 1788 in NC. He was the son of Silas Scarborough born 1750 in North Carolina. He first married Martha Patsey Stinson, sister of Burwell Stinson, on Jan. 27, 1809 in Jasper Co., GA.

By 1811 Frederick, his father Silas and brothers were paying taxes in Clarke County, AL. They are listed in the 1820 census of Clarke County, the 1830 census of Wilcox County, AL and the 1840 census of Clarke County, AL.

Frederick's first wife died in 1816 and he married Mary Ann Phelps on Oct. 30, 1817 in Clarke County, AL. By 1841 Frederick was paying taxes in Lauderdale County, Mississippi as were many of his sons.

The children of Frederick Scarborough and Martha Patsey Stinson were:

• James Ransom Scarborough born Jan. 11, 1811 married Margaret Nelson in Dec. 1833 in Washington Co., AL

• Silas S. Scarborough born Jan. 11, 1811 married Sarah Stinson daughter of Burwell Stinson on April 26, 1830 Clarke Co. AL died Dec. 1, 1879 buried Old Vaniess cemetery in Clarke Co., MS

• Maxwell Scarborough born Oct. 1809 married Elizabeth Edwards Aug. 26, 1824 Marengo Co., AL

• Daniel Benjamin Scarborough born 1810 married Eliza Scarborough Jan. 4, 1841 Clarke Co., AL

• Absolam Scarborough born 1816 married Elizabeth H. Smith

• Peter Scarborough born 1818 married Mary Jones March 24, 1945 Mobil County AL daughter of Edward Jones

• Frederick Lewis Scarborough born Nov. 5, 1821 married Sarah Jones daughter of Edward Jones

• Millie Scarborough born 1827 married Elihu Smith

• Elisha Scarborough born 1828 captured by Indians while in Oklahoma after the Civil War and believed killed

• William Henry Scarborough born 1829

• David Scarborough born July 31, 1831 married Mary

• Julia Ann Scarborough born July 31, 1831 married William Jones son of Edward Jones Nov. 24, 1851 died May 30, 1909

• Eliza Scarborough born 1832 married Benjamin H. Smith

• Richard C. Scarborough born 1834 married Elizabeth Cook June 22, 1855 married Martha A. Creel Smith widow of Lacy Smith in 1875

• Henry Scarborough born 1836 captured by Indians while in Oklahoma after the Civil War and believed killed

• Francis M. Scarborough born 1839 married Margaret Thompson Dec. 18, 1866 in Washington Co., AL
