Robert E. Monzingo
Company L, 12th Louisiana Infantry.

Please be advised that the records of the National Archives may be in error regarding the disposition of this soldier.

Robert E. Monzingo, assigned to Company L of the 12th Louisiana Infantry likely born in South Carolina about 1841.

The following information on this individual has been submitted by a researcher.

  • From the Military Records of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers and Louisiana Confederate Commands, compiled by Andrew B. Booth, Commissioner Louisiana Military Records, 1920, Vol. p. 1023.  The following information is provided:

  • From the following source --Year: 1880; Census Place: Point Remove, Conway, Arkansas; Roll: T9_41; Family History Film: 1254041; Page: 318.4000; Enumeration District: 39; Image: 0381, Lines 8 & 9.

    •  Monzingo and family were residents of this locality (Conway County, Arkansas) in 1880.

From the research submitted by this researcher, we can determine that Robert E. Monzingo was born about 1841 in Stokes Bridge, Darlington, South Carolina.  On 22 November 1866 he married Jenny C. (maiden name unknown) in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.  He died at the age of 71 (1912) in Conway, Faulkner, Arkansas.

Further, based on the information now available, it appears that while Robert e. Monzingo, Company L, 12th Louisiana Infantry, was in fact a patient at the Lauderdale Springs Hospital in September of 1963, the inclusion of his name on the deceased list by the Confederate hospital logs of the National Archives, is clearly in error.

Researchers accessing this information should consider the inclusion of the adjunct information provided here in your continuing research.
